Who we are and what we do:
We are a small, family run non-profit equine rescue, run and started by a teenage, homeschooled equestrian with a passion for helping animals. We save equines that were abandoned at auction/kill pens/feed lots and left to be sent to slaughter, by bailing them out and having them transported to our home. We give them another chance at life by rehabilitating them, and then finding them loving, forever homes, while keeping a few along the way!
Apart from rescuing and spending time with her horses, Greta rides and competes hunter/jumper/equitation.
Silver Lining Stables Equine Rescue is named after Greta's true first horse, Echo's Silver Lining, AKA Echo, who tragically passed away from a severe case of "Wobblers Syndrome" on 10/24/18. Though she was not a rescue, we will honor her by saving and helping horses in need. We will always love you Echo, thank you. <3
Our Story:
Founded in August 2017 by a then 14 year old, homeschooled, horse loving equestrian girl named Greta when she fell for two fillies in a kill pen in Colorado and begged her parents to let her save them. She was then hooked and determined to save as many equine-lives as she could. After proving she could find homes for the first two, she began rescuing and rehoming more. We are now calling ourselves a small Equine Rescue bailing Equines from Kill Pens/Feed Lots and Auctions in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and having them shipped home to us (by our trusted shippers Kroll Transport!) all the way in seacoast Maine where we will find their forever homes!
Clarifying "non-profit":
We call ourselves a nonprofit, simply meaning we do not make a profit on any money sent to the rescue such as adoption fees or donations, though we are not a 501(c)(3) organization. A nonprofit does not require 501(c)(3) status to operate, only to be tax exempt.
